Organisational capacity
The Dutch hospitality sector is a dynamic playing field with diverse interests. Entrepreneurs, national and local governments, cultural and social institutions, and various other organisations each have their own role and added value. At the same time, we’re all facing the same major challenges together, such as sustainability, digitalisation and changing travel behaviour. That’s why NBTC connects parties within and outside the hospitality industry.
NBTC's network
Destination Netherlands has big ambitions but also has to deal with some big challenges. That's why NBTC actively collaborates with a broad network of domestic and international partners, inside and outside the sector. We connect destinations, markets and governments, bringing together cities, regions, businesses and other stakeholders. This is how we contribute to our shared goals as set out in Perspective 2030.
One of NBTC’s key priorities is to strengthen public-private partnerships. We do this across a wide spectrum of topics – from data and research to market development and sustainability. We also link tourist and business visits to themes such as culture and nature.

The National Council for Recreation and Tourism
The National Council for Recreation and Tourism (LRRT) brings together government, industry, organisations and knowledge institutions to work towards a sustainable leisure economy. NBTC actively participates in the National Council for Recreation and Tourism and plays an important role as the National Office. From this position, NBTC supports the council in a variety of tasks, such as putting substantive themes on the agenda, sharing knowledge and insights, and facilitating collaboration between parties. This is how we contribute to a strong and forward-looking direction for the hospitality sector in the Netherlands.
The National Council for Recreation and Tourism is a hands-on council rather than a traditional advisory council. We work on concrete solutions to current and future challenges. Geerte Udo, chair of the LRRT
The LRRT grew out of the Hospitality Economy Taskforce, which brought the sector together during the COVID pandemic. Whereas the Task Force focused on recovery, the council is mainly looking ahead. The focus is on the long term: the sustainable and responsible development of the tourism-recreation sector, with consideration for people, nature and the economy.
The Tourism Summit
The Toerisme Top (Tourism Summit) is the Netherlands' annual tourism networking and knowledge event. Entrepreneurs, policymakers and experts from the sector gather for an inspiring day programme and knowledge exchange, with the opportunity to share experiences and make contacts. Each edition is held in a different province, allowing it to highlight its own hospitality offering.
Commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, NBTC plays a central role in organising the Toerisme Top. Besides participating in the project team and providing financial support, NBTC is responsible for overall project management. NBTC brings together parties from across the sector, linking them all based on a common vision. We give direction to the content – always aligned with Perspective 2030 – and work with partners to create a programme that inspires, connects and sets things in motion.
