We issue an annual forecast for overnight tourism in the Netherlands, which includes those visiting for leisure and/or business purposes. The forecast is published at the beginning of the year and is updated every autumn.
What is the current status of overnight tourism the Netherlands? How much is made up of domestic tourism and how much consists of international visitors? And from which countries do those international visitors mainly originate?
This Forecast covers domestic and inbound overnight tourism in our country, with figures and forecasts in one clear report.
Forecast 2026: slight growth in overnight tourism
The latest edition of Forecast shows that overnight tourism in the Netherlands will grow slightly by 0.5% to around 53 million overnight guests in 2026. Growth will thereby flatten to its lowest level since 2012 (excluding 2020). International overnight tourism continues to grow (+2.4%) and accounts for 23 million guests, while domestic overnight tourism shrinks slightly (-1%) to 30 million overnight guests. Weakening growth is partly linked to the VAT increase on accommodation from 1 January 2026, although stable travel intentions, a more favourable economic climate and good value for money ensure that the accommodation market continues to grow slightly on balance.
